Acid reflux disorder is also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disorder. This disorder is characterized by different degrees of mucosal damage due to the abnormal reflux of stomach acid in the esophagus.

Acid reflux occurs when gastric juices that contain acid, travel back into your esophagus from your stomach. You will know if you have this kind of disorder if you have one of these acid reflux symptoms:

Burning Feeling In The Throat
This occurs usually on the higher part in the neck and also on the lower part. This can be due to the irritation that occurs when stomach contents reflux up to your throat

Burning Sensation In The Chest
Usually the sensation starts on the sternum or behind the breastbone then this may lead to your throat. The burning sensation usually occurs after eating and can last for a few minutes or several hours

Chronic Coughing
About 41% of chronic coughing is due to acid reflux disorder

Sour or Bitter Taste In The Mouth
If stomach contents reflux up into the esophagus, there is a tendency that it may reach the back of the throat. Thus, a sour or bitter taste occurs

Difficulty Swallowing
If food does not pass normally through your esophagus, you may likely experience difficulty in swallowing. This happens if there is a sticking sensation in the throat, pressure in the chest or burning after eating. You may also experience the feeling of choking. These can be signs of different conditions, which include esophageal cancer and erosive esophagitis. If you are experiencing this, always have a physician evaluate you

Asthma-Like Symptoms or Wheezing
A number of studies have shown that 60% of people who suffer from asthma, have acid reflux. Acid reflux can affect asthma if stomach acid refluxes in the esophagus and then flows over into the airways and lungs. This could be the reason why acid reflux may cause you to experience difficulty in breathing, which can lead to wheezing and coughing

Ulcerative colitis is a disease that causes swelling and sores in the lining of the large intestine, or colon. It usually affects the lower section of the colon and the rectum. But it can also affect the entire colon. In rare cases, the swelling may extend into the small intestine.

Experts are unsure what causes ulcerative colitis. Several theories have been made to explain the condition. Some experts think that the disease is brought about by a bacterium or a virus in the digestive tract. However, they have not found such organism. Other researchers think the immune system of the body becomes confused and begins to attack the body’s own cells as though they were foreign invaders.

Some people used to think that ulcerative colitis is caused by stress. Although researchers oppose to this idea, they say that if you have ulcerative colitis, stress can definitely make it worse. This illness occurs in all age groups and affects men and women equally. Experts say you are more likely to acquire the disease if other people in your family have history of having it.

Some of the symptoms include abdominal pain or cramps. You may experience an urgent need to have a bowel movement and experience bleeding from the rectum. Others may suffer a fever, lose weight, and in severe cases may have diarrhea 10 to 20 times a day.

Surgery and medications help in restraining the illness. Depending on its severity, medications are used so the symptoms could be controlled. Changes in diet are also beneficial. For some with continual and severe symptoms, surgery may be required to remove the colon. Alternative treatment choices can also be used to help reduce the inflammation caused by the disease.

As of the moment, there are no known methods in stopping the illness. Ulcerative colitis can be very difficult to live with. But a warm support from family, friends or, a counselor could tremendously help if you are having a difficult time. Talk to others who are coping with the disease.

Nausea is the feeling of an upset stomach that often results in vomiting. Nausea in itself is not a condition, but is caused by an underlying condition, such as food poisoning, gastroenteritis or car sickness. Nausea can also be caused by sensitivity to certain drugs (this is why many drugs don’t make it to market), concussion, the flu, chemotherapy, anesthesia, over-eating, diabetes, strenuous exercise, migraine, excess alcohol intake, anxiety.

Nausea leads to an urge to vomit, a process by which the (perceived) toxin is eliminated from our body. Prolonged vomiting can be hazardous to our health, because it can result in dehydration and loss of electrolytes.

The feeling of nausea can be extremely uncomfortable. In most cases, vomiting can bring relief, but nausea does not always lead to vomiting or you may still feel nauseous after you vomit. There are (prescription-based) treatments for nausea (antiemetics) that are often used for extreme cases of nausea and vomiting. However, there are a few natural ways that people can use to relieve nausea:

Fructose: Fructose (as found in high fructose corn syrup) seems to have a calming effect on an upset stomach. Fructose is found in over-the-counter treatments such as emetrol or you may drink a “flat” cola. Beware that fructose cannot be used if you have a fructose intollerance

Ginger: Ginger (Zingiber officinale) root has been used for centuries to treat upset stomach. You may use the fresh herb or drink a ginger ale

Peppermint: Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is another herb that has long been used to treat nausea. Peppermint is believed to reduce nausea, indigestion and colonic spasms by reducing the “gastrocolic reflex”
